Abstract:
This thesis study consists of two main parts. The first part is about the work done on Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC's) which are large-area particle detectors used in the Muon Spectrometer of the ATLAS Experiment. Contributions to the maintenance and operation of the existing ATLAS-RPC detectors and the general layout design of new RPC detectors for the ATLAS upgrade will be discussed in detail. The second part is about the general design and simulation results of a Muon Tomography System motivated by the know-how gained through the previous studies on large-area particle detectors mentioned in the first part.
Bio:
After completing his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering Major and Electrical-Electronics Engineering Minor programs, Ahmet Renklioğlu transitioned from engineering to physics. This transition began with his graduation project work on "The Cyclotron Design for Radioisotopes for PET Scanners." As of January 2018, Ahmet Renklioğlu became a User in the ATLAS Experiment and participated in R&D Studies on repairing and preventing gas leaks in ATLAS RPCs in February 2021. Later in September 2022, he became the Responsible Person for ATLAS RPC Gas Systems. Due to his contributions to ATLAS in 2021 and 2022, he was added as an External Writer to the ATLAS article "The ATLAS Experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider: A Description of the Detector Configuration for Run 3." Ahmet Renklioğlu also began working as a Technical Specialist at Istinye University High Energy and Particle Physics Group in November 2022.
