Abstract:

The aim of the research is to investigate how an electric vehicle (EV) charger with a controller performs and affects the EV battery, integrated to the grid. Firstly, a few power converter topologies, mostly utilized in industry, are to be discussed and reviewed with their advantages and disadvantages in the scope of the literature review. In the next parts, one of the electric vehicle charger topologies to be covered is to be handled in more detail to evaluate its functionality & performance throughout the study, i.e. how well it performs interacting with the network, effects of the grid-connected system on battery voltage & current via theoretical analysis and simulation work. Moreover, some methods for the design are to be presented and evaluated regarding how to improve the performance of overall electric vehicle charger station integrated to dynamic grid and power electronics control algorithm to be investigated, based on total harmonic distortion (THD) and efficiency analysis. Simulation results are to be discussed to analyze the performance of the electric vehicle charger system during conditions such as steady-state, grid distortion, DC bus variation, or transients at the load side.
