Tuğba Gülfem Kaya obtained her B.Sc. degree in architecture in 2002, M.Sc. degree in 2006 with the dissertation titled “The Effect of Water on Building Defects and The Methods of Remedial Treatment of Defects” and her Ph.D. degree in 2017, from Istanbul Technical University with the dissertation titled “Durability of Timber and Laminated Timber and the Effects of Environmental Conditions on its Mechanical Properties”. Collaborated with companies and contractors in the design, drawing and application stages of various office, residence and cultural center projects. In addition, she took part in the production of timber element, which is her profession, in different scales from the structural element to the product. Her research interests and architectural studies include  building materials, building construction, sustainability, timber as a building material and timber technologies.
