He graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of Sociology in 1998. He obtained his M.A. from Bilkent University, Department of Turkish Literature in 2002. He received his Ph. D. in 2007, from Bilkent University, Department of Turkish Literature.
He taught Turkish Language courses in Jamia Millia Islamia University, India in spring 2007. Serdar worked as a part time instructor in Department of Turkish Language in İstanbul Bilgi University between 2008-2011. His articles were published in journals such as Edebiyat ve Eleştiri, Praksis, Pasaj, Virgül, and in some edited volumes. His major areas of research interests are Turkish novel, literary theories, Turkish modernization and history of Turkish thought.
