Zero Waste and Zero Waste Management System

Dear Members of the OzU Community,

The "Zero Waste Management System" is a project developed by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and supported by the Zero Waste Regulation. The project aims to enhance the effectiveness of waste management within institutions through a systematic approach.

"Zero Waste" is a circular approach to resource and waste management.  It encourages sustainable production and consumption habits and promotes the efficient use of resources.  Zero waste advocates avoiding, preventing, reducing, reusing, and recycling waste, thereby contributing to positive socio-economic outcomes, including fostering social solidarity.

With its LEED Gold-certified green buildings and the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard, which it has been holding since 2014, Özyeğin University continues to embrace and implement its environmentally conscious approach.  Additionally, Özyeğin University holds the distinction of being the first university to receive the Zero Waste Certificate on February 14, 2020.  For more, please click here.

Our university adopts the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). In line with this approach, waste management is undertaken by licensed firms in compliance with environmental regulations, and waste is regularly monitored.

The Zero Waste Management System is implemented under the guidance of the HSE Department, with operational support of the Administrative Services Department.
