Özyeğin University's Faculty of Architecture and Design is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of our Republic with a technical trip. This special event, titled "The Establishment of the Capital: Ankara," plans to connect participants with the story of a nation restructured with great ideals after major devastation through readings on the modern architectural heritage of the capital.
The focus of the trip will primarily be on the planning and construction of Ankara as the capital. This process will be examined at both urban and structural scales and will also address the transformation processes with contributions from conservation expert architects. Moreover, modern buildings and living documents of contemporary Turkey’s construction will play a significant role throughout the technical trip, including early and late examples. The preservation of these buildings will also be discussed within the program with contributions from DOCOMOMO TR members.
The trip will conclude with a visit to the Anıtkabir of our founder, Gazi Mustafa Kemal, in its 100th year. This closing event will delve deep into the architecture and design process of Anıtkabir, exploring the depths of this significant symbol.
Özyeğin University covers all transportation costs to encourage and support students' participation in this exploration. The event aims to offer students a rich experience in both historical and architectural terms.
