Özyeğin University City and Architecture Thesis Master's Program Students Win First Place in International Urban Design and Architecture Competition
Özyegin University City and Architecture Thesis Master's Program students, Eda Akarsu, Beril Özelçi, and Özge Keskin, students, have won the first prize in the “UfM Student Competition on Urban Design 2023: 'Urban Solutions to Climate Change in the Mediterranean,' organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in recognition of their project 'Symbiosis with Amik Lake'. The students’ project focuses on the relationship between the existing water basin in the Amik Plain, which has been grappling with drought since the 1950s, and the habitat of the plain. The project aims to provide a symbiotic alternative by exploring the question 'Is coexistence possible?' within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals.
The UfM is an intergovernmental organization bringing together 43 member countries, including all of the EU member states and 16 non-EU member states around the Mediterranean. The organization received 80 projects from 37 universities across 12 countries for its international competition in 2023. Participants were expected to propose innovative and sustainable urban design solutions to problems stemming from climate change in Mediterranean countries. Following the evaluation by a seven-member international jury, top three winners will be presented awards and two projects will receive honorable mentions. Özyeğin University will present the third prize during the award ceremony, which will take place in Barcelona, Spain as part of the celebrations of UfM’s 15th anniversary.
OzU students who won first place will also be attending the ceremony to receive their prize.
