Özyeğin University Faculty Member Dr. Mohammed Elamassie Received Senior Membership at Optica

Dr. Mohammed Elamassie, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Executive Co-director of the Center of Excellence in Optical Wireless Communication Technologies (OKATEM) at Özyeğin University, has been granted senior membership in the class of 2023 at Optica. Originally founded in 1916 as the “Optical Society of America,” the organization’s name was first changed to The Optical Society (OSA) in 2008 and updated to Optica in 2021. Optica is an international professional society that supports researchers and companies in the development of optics and photonics.

Dr. Elamassie became the only researcher in 2023 to receive this achievement among scholars conducting their research in Turkey. The Optica Board of Directors gives the distinction of Senior Membership to recognize the experience and professional accomplishment of members in optics and photonics. Researchers must have at least 10 years of significant professional experience in optics and photonics, five years of active Optica membership, and provide two recommendation statements from current Optica members to qualify for Senior Membership.

As a PhD graduate of Özyeğin University in 2020, Dr. Mohammed Elamassie's research interests are in the broad area of optical wireless communications, specifically underwater visible light communications, vehicular visible light communications, airborne free-space optical communications, atmospheric channel modeling, diversity techniques for fading mitigation, and MIMO communications, and non-terrestrial networks.
