Memorandum of Understanding Between Özyeğin University and UNIDROIT

Within the scope of the studies initiated under the leadership of Özyeğin University Dean of Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Özlem Yenerer Çakmut and Dr. Jocelyne Alayan, a meeting was held between our University and UNIDROIT (in French: Institut international pour l'unification du droit privé / in English: International Institute for the Unification of Private Law) and cooperation agreement was signed on 18.01.2023.

UNIDROIT is an international organization established to promote the global uniformity of private law. UNIDROIT prepares methods, international treaties, model laws and basic principles for the uniformization of private law. Thus, the aim of worldwide harmonization and modernization of private law, especially commercial law, will be achieved.

UNIDROIT is headquartered in Rome. UNIDROIT was founded in 1926 by the League of Nations, the predecessor of the United Nations organization. Today, UNIDROIT, an independent international organization with 63 members, examines the means and possibilities of harmonization of private laws of states and state associations and prepares uniform private law regulations that can be valid in all states.
The official languages of the organization are Italian, German, English, Spanish, and French. Working languages are only English and French.
UNIDROIT has drafted more than 70 research and international treaties until today. 17 of them have entered into force.

Özyeğin University Faculty of Law aims to improve its cooperation with the UNIDROIT secretariat in the academic field and to increase the contributions of Turkish lawyers at the international level.
