AFTER THE DAMAGES Summer School, 2020 Edition, is an intensive two weeks e-learning program for 25 international students, graduates, professionals accross disciplines, who intend to pursue a specialization in the field of risk management of built and cultural heritage. The Summer School will be focused on the impacts and dynamics of anthropic and natural hazards (earthquakes, fires, floods, droughts, volcanic eruptions, etc.). By learning the most updated approaches dealing with the post-disaster phase, participants will be trained on the most effective tools to cope with potential international crisis scenarios and mitigate the social impact of vulnerabilities also through risk reduction.

The Summer School program offers intensive training, through lectures either frontally in the synchronous and asynchronous form via e-learning, and through virtual fieldwork and thematic inspections, covering both the essential concepts and the updated tools for the reduction of the disasters’ risks, focusing on different natural hazards, including multiple events and consequent effects. Through the disaster cycle (i.e., mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery) and the interaction of natural hazards with human society, the method of disaster risk reduction is explored.

Duration of the course: 2 Weeks

Course fee: € 3.000,00 - For the July 2020 edition, 20 training vouchers are available to cover the 20 available positions, whose fee will, therefore, be fully covered by the funds of the Emilia-Romagna Region.

Admission requirements

• Admission to the Summer School will be based on a selection consisting of an assessment of scientific and professional qualifications and an interview.
• Candidates selected by the assessment of qualifications will be notified for an interview.

Mandatory prerequisite

Master of Science degree in one of the following areas is a prerequisite to the course:

• Architecture and Civil engineering;
• Industrial and Information Engineering;
• Geophysical Sciences;
• Humanities;
• Economics and Statistics;
• Political and Social Sciences.
• Law Sciences;
• Mathematics and Computer Science;
• Historical and pedagogical sciences.

Candidates with a Master of Science degree in other areas than those listed above will be admitted at the Committee’s discretion.

Candidates may apply for the selection by 23:00 CET of May 31, 2020, by delivering via email to afterdamages@unife.it the following documentation:

• a copy of the identity card or other identification document;
• Scientific and/or Professional Curriculum Vitae [.pdf];
• cover letter explaining:
  • motivations for participating in the course consistently with personal specialization areas, possible applicability, and skills development;
  • short and medium-long term objectives that contribute to the choice of the Summer School as a tool to achieve these goals;
  • scientific-professional strengths, describing experiences, knowledge and skills highlighting particular attention to the strategic activities of the course.

Total size limit for ALL documents to be delivered is 15Mb
