Aycan Kapucu received her B.A. from Bogazici University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the
University of Massachusetts Amherst. She taught several courses at Bogazici University and Izmir University of Economics, and worked as an assistant professor at Ozyegin University. She also studied as a post-doctoral research fellow, supported by TUBITAK, at Cognitive Processes Laboratory, Bogazici University. Her research interests include quantiative memory models and signal detection theory, and the effect of emotions and aging on memory and cognitive processes.

"Parenting in Acculturation Context: Turkish Immigrant, German Dutch Mothers’ Child-rearing Goals and Practices"

Elif Durgel obtained her BA from Hacettepe University and MA in developmental psychology from Koc University. She received her Ph.D. in cross-cultural developmental psychology from Tilburg University, Netherlands in 2011 and she taught cross-cultural psychology at the same department until 2013. Currently she is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, Yasar University, Izmir. Elif’s main research interests are the role of cultural factors and family background characteristics in parenting beliefs and practices.

"Bullying Prevention & Intervention at Schools"

Aysun Doğan received her BSc in Psychology at Middle East Technical University, Ankara and PhD in applied developmental psychology from Claremont Graduate University, California. While in graduate school, she worked on several research projects examining the predictors of adolescents’ risk taking behaviors (e.g., teenage pregnancy, school dropout) and the effects of traumatic events on adolescents’ mental health. After completing her education she worked at the Center for Health Policy Research of University of California at Irvine where she managed projects focusing on Latinas coping with cervical cancer. She is currently an Associate Professor in the psychology department at Ege University, Izmir. Her research interests include adolescents’ risk-taking behaviors, immigration, bullying, victimization, friendships of emerging adults, and prevention programs.

"Parental Socialization of Moral Values, Emotions, and Behaviors"

Dr. Carlo received his Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Arizona State University in 1994. Currently, he is the Millsap Professor of Diversity and Multicultural Psychology at the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Missouri. He teaches courses in child development, prosocial and moral development, and culture. His primary area of interest is culture and moral development. His research focuses on the sociocultural, socialization, and personality processes associated with helping behaviors in children and adolescents.

M. Selenga Gürmen is currently a PhD candidate in Human Development Family Studies department with a concentration in Marriage and Family therapy at the University of Connecticut. In 2010, she graduated summa cum laude from Bogazici University with a BA in Psychology. She obtained her masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Connecticut in 2012. Broadly, her research interests are co-parenting, divorce, extended family, high-conflict therapy, and multicultural training and therapy. Her doctoral dissertation, specifically, focuses on co-parenting among divorced individuals and explores the role of extended family kinship in these relationships.

"Early interactions between language and thought"


Tilbe Göksun is Assistant Professor of Psychology at Koc University, Istanbul. She obtained her BA in Psychology from Bogazici University and MA in Developmental Psychology from Koc University, Istanbul. She did her Postdoctoral work in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Temple University and worked at Temple University Infant Lab. Her broad research areas are language development, the interface between language and cognitive development, and neuropsychology of language production.

"Mindfullness: What is already there"

Zeynep Sunbay Bilgen is a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor trained at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She received her BA in Psychology from Bogazici University in Turkey in 2007 and an MSc degree in Health Psychology from University of Southampton, England in 2009. She has research experience in healthcare settings where she worked with mild traumatic brain injury patients, cancer patients and patients with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms. In 2012, she was accepted to Clinical Psychology program for adult at Istanbul Bilgi University.
