Overview

Overview

The Department of Anthropology at Özyeğin University is an interdisciplinary research and teaching venue that distinguishes itself with its high level of conceptual education as well as its emphasis on practice. Its mission is to produce graduates who are able to conduct solution-oriented analysis of social, cultural, economic and political phenomena at local and global levels based on human experience. In the program, students learn to observe the diversity of cultures and experiences encountered in every aspect of modern life and they develop projects that can be applied in everyday life.

Founded in 2024, OzU Anthropology Program makes a difference with its emphasis on practice as well as high-level conceptual education. Its interdisciplinary curriculum, which is unique in Turkey, responds to the needs of the contemporary world by focusing on courses such as Market Ethnography, Business Anthropology, Sociology of Science and Technology, Gender, Historical Heritage. The program provides a unique framework for understanding subcultural differences, public opinion, consumer behavior and subcultural differences in everyday life through qualitative and quantitative research techniques based on participant observation and field research. Our students transition from theory to practice starting from the 3rd year with the compulsory internship course and practical upper-level courses.

The ability to analyze the complex connections between society and individual experience in an ever-transforming global context is offered in dialogue with sociology, history, psychology, international relations and other social and humanities disciplines. This transdisciplinary perspective is reflected in the research areas and course offerings of our faculty, as well as in the program structure, which encourages minor and double major options.
