Assoc. Prof. İlknur Eruçar Organized Training School on Campus as Part of COST Action

Associate Professor İlknur Eruçar from the Faculty of Engineering at Özyeğin University organized a training school entitled “MOF Computational Tools, Machine Learning, and Databases” as part of the EU4MOFs COST Action (CA22147) on October 14 and 15, 2024. The event was held in a hybrid format, offering in-person and virtual attendance options with 35 and 25 participants, respectively.

The training school aimed to provide participants with advanced knowledge and hands-on experience using data-driven approaches, machine learning techniques, and computational tools to advance research and innovation in Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). The school focused on state-of-the-art simulation methods and their applications, equipping attendees with the skills necessary to address complex challenges in MOF research, from material discovery to storage solutions.

The training school featured numerous distinguished speakers, including Prof. Guillaume Maurin (Université de Montpellier), Assoc. Prof. Sven Rogge (Ghent University), Prof. Seda Keskin (Koç University), Assoc. Prof. Peyman Moghadam (University College London), Prof. George Froudakis (University of Crete), Dr. Aydın Ozcan (TÜBİTAK-MAM), Dr. Jack Evans (The University of Adelaide), Dr. Quim Pena (RWTH Aachen University Hospital), Dr. Manuel Tsotsalas (The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology [KIT]), and Prof. Rochus Schmid (Ruhr-Universität Bochum).

During the hands-on sessions, Nasim Samadpour, Parivash Jamshidi, and Dr. Zeynep Pinar Haşlak from Assoc. Prof. Eruçar’s MODEL research group led the training and shared their expertise. Antonios Sarikas and Michail Vlachos from Prof. George Froudakis’ group, alongside Gökhan Önder Aksu and Hasan Can Gülbalkan from Prof. Seda Keskin’s group, also contributed to the hands-on sessions.
