ÖzU Racing Team Comprising Engineering Students Wins Sixth Place in “Formula Student UK”

Founded in November 2023 by Özyeğin University Faculty of Engineering students, the team “ÖzU Racing” came in sixth out of 37 teams racing in the “Cost and Manufacturing” category at the Formula Student UK competition held in the United Kingdom from July 16-22, 2024.

Formula Student UK is recognized as one of the most prestigious engineering competitions. ÖzU Racing competed as the only team representing Türkiye this year. Competing against teams with at least 5-6 years of experience, ÖzU Racing achieved an impressive 14th place in the overall ranking. The team prepared for the competition under the academic mentorship of Associate Prof. Polat Şendur, Assistant Prof. Bora Tokgöz, and Prof. Güney Güven Yapıcı from the Faculty of Engineering at Özyeğin University.

Launched in 1981 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in Michigan, USA, Formula Student has evolved into a global engineering competition. As the European counterpart to the Formula SAE competition, Formula Student brings together young minds from over 20 countries in the thrilling realm of automotive engineering. The competition aims to cultivate innovative engineers and promote interest in engineering careers. The competition also highlights the importance of comprehensive understanding across various engineering disciplines while promoting the creation of Formula-style race cars.
