Assistant Prof. Göktürk Poyrazoğlu and Research Assistant Sinem Kol’s Study Wins ‘Best Paper Award’ at IYCE’24

The paper “Spatio-Temporal Impact of EV Charging Load on Locational Marginal Prices,” co-authored by Research Assistant Sinem Kol from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Program at Özyeğin University and Assistant Prof. Göktürk Poyrazoğlu, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Chair, has been recognized with the “Best Paper Award” at the 9th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE’24) held in France from July 2-6, 2024.

In this study, Research Assistant Kol and Assistant Prof. Poyrazoğlu explore the spatial and temporal effects of electric vehicle charging loads on electricity prices, analyzing the potential impacts of the quantitative increase in these vehicles on energy markets. The research presents critical findings, particularly regarding price fluctuations and sustainable energy use. The study demonstrates that the charging load of electric vehicles can increase pressure on energy transmission and distribution systems, significantly affecting electricity prices. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of planning and managing EV charging infrastructure to ensure the security of energy supply and sustainability.
